4th Annual Ottawa Musculoskeletal Research Symposium was held on October 10, 2025 at the Canadian Museum of Nature

The symposium had representation from the OHRI, The Ottawa Hospital, CHEO, Ontario Veterinary College, Carleton University and the University of Ottawa, with a variety of graduate student research presented.

The invited guest speaker was Dr. Elise Laende, who gave a talk entitled “Bringing Biomechanics to the Clinic and Beyond”.  Dr. Laende is an Assistant Professor in Systems Design Engineering and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Waterloo. Nineteen scientific papers were presented throughout the day and prizes were given for the top abstracts.

The symposium also included talks from Dr. Patrick Ippersiel, University of Ottawa (“The use of Wearable Technology in Musculoskeletal Research: Towards Real-world Monitoring?”), Dr. Manisha Mistry, Division of Orthopaedic Surgery, The Ottawa Hospital, (“Advances in Dynamic Imaging for Better Diagnosis of Wrist Instabilities and Ligamentous Tears”),  Dr. Daniel Coutu, Division of Orthopaedic Surgery, The Ottawa Hospital (“A spatial Transcriptomics Atlas Reveals a New Type of Synovial Joint Stem Cell”), and Dr. Andrew Speirs (“Load Support and Fluid Flow in Natural and Engineered Cartilage”).

Our congratulations to all abstract and presentation winners.
