With an increase in participation from last year’s event, a total of 24 scientific papers were presented with representation across Ottawa (OHRI, TOH, CHEO, Carleton University, and uOttawa). Papers presented were from a variety of disciplines (Physics, Health Sciences, Medicine, and Engineering). The meeting guest speaker, Dr. Cari Whyne (Sunnybrook Research Institute) gave a talk on “New Paradigms in Fracture Healing”. The variety of research presented made for a productive day of discussion and connection among the attendees.
Prizes were given for the best abstracts.
First place: “The potential role of matrix metalloproteinases in the release of interleukin-1β by macrophages exposed to metal implant wear particles”
Supervisor: Dr. Isabelle Catelas
Second place: “Towards Patient-Centered Care: Data-Driven Categorization of Traumatic Spinal Cord Injury Patients Using Cluster Analysis”
Supervisor: Dr. Philippe Phan
Third place: “Characterization of Polyphosphate-Based Particles for Drug Delivery into Articular Cartilage”

We look forward to another successful event next October!
